I developed problems healing in my Moh’s surgical wound on my face. I tried to get an appointment with Dr. Zakhem or a partner but none were available for over two weeks due to holiday vacations. There were no physicians or intermediate providers in the entire SSM-Dean system that I could see in Dermatology for over two weeks even though I felt I had a post surgery complication that required urgent attention. I was directed to Urgent Care or the ER. I found this lack of backup for Dermatology extremely frustrating and rather inexcusable. Ultimately I was given the appointment to see DrZakhem on 1/8/26, nearly three weeks after I sought attention to my problem. I have been a Dean clinic patient for 35 years and this is the most frustrated I have been with the Dean system. My provider is an extremely good surgeon, but his lack of availability in follow up of his operation and no one else in the department available either for nearly three weeks is a problem that needs to be corrected immediately.

The doctor was very professional and yet friendly. She was polite and knowledgeable. It was obvious she cares about her patients (like me) as she checked several times if the area she was working on was still numb.

Again, Laura Van Why was very professional and I would highly recommend her, however, not many people will want to wait 8 months to get in and see her. Also, I did ask to be put on a cancellation list and during the 8 months waiting period, I never rec'd a call that there was a cancellation.
