He really knows and cares about his patients. And he takes the time needed to answer questions. He is actually the only reason I use Northwest medicine In Dekalb. If he was not there I would use another hospital.

Dr. Mathen worked diligently at obtaining a prescription medication for me when my insurance had determined that the medication (which I had been taking for 20 years) would no longer be available to me. He is a kind and caring physician who goes to great lengths to not only resolve the patient’s presenting problems but to get to the root causes of those problems as well.

Dr. Mathen has always been very attentive and informative. He is a very good listener and I appreciate that he has the patience to wait til I can find the words!

While Dr. Mathen gives good nutrition advice, it could be more specific to the needs of the patient. As a marathon runner, I’m having trouble seeing how the guidelines are going to give me enough calories for training. Also, while the papers on eating and breathing Dr. Mathen provides are helpful, I think patients would have better results if they were given recipes.

Late to appointment (25 min) and I felt like I was being up-charged with additional labs. I’ve determined that Integrated Health is more expensive and not for me.

Patient, good listener. Great perspective and insight, as he stays current on wholistic medicine in addition to being knowledgeable about general medicine. A good “root cause” physican, not so eager to medicate symptoms as much as empowering patient to take ownership of their health and life.

He provides a thoughtful thorough analysis of an individual's diet and activity within their lifestyle. He uses this information to teach an individual about their personal healthcare.
