Aaron Cohn is extremely professional and very patient. When I was explaining my symptoms to Aaron, he was 100% focused on me and then asked excellent follow-up questions to better understand my symptoms. I felt very comfortable with Aaron’s recommendation for follow-up treatment. I would 100% recommend Erin to anyone looking for a Gastro physician referral.

I’ve really needed to see a gastro and felt that it was escalating into an emergency situation. Dr Cohn squeezed me in over lunch and I already have a procedure scheduled for next week. I feel so grateful and relieved.

What a terrible experience. I've had GI symptoms for 20 years and wanted to consult on a plan for testing, etc. to find out what the underlying problem is. My primary care doctor, Dr. Zallik, referred me to Dr. Cohn. I am scheduled for surgery on December 22nd and am unsure about proceeding with the surgery, so Dr. Zallik helped me get in to see Dr. Cohn ASAP to consult with him about my GI symptoms. Dr. Cohn was double booked for my appointment today, which he mentioned a few times during my time with him. He said phrases including 'this is someone else's time slot right now' and 'I don't have time to talk to you about this today, let's set a future appointment.' He added that the future appointment would need to be during his lunch hour since he is fully booked until next year. After he told me I should tell the receptionist to book over his lunch hour, I asked Dr. Cohn if there are other doctors in this practice who could see me instead if he is fully booked and can't accept a new patient. I felt he was defensive again and said something like 'if you want to see another doctor, that's fine, that's your choice. I'm just telling you I'm booked until next year. Up to you.' And walked away.I didn't know I was double booking Dr. Cohn or 'taking up time during someone else's slot' as Dr. Cohn pointed out. Nor is that my problem. I felt he took his frustration about being double booked out on me, a sick patient who was there to seek his guidance and care. There were multiple instances during our short session that I felt he was defensive, such as when I asked if he'd like to see pictures of my distended belly after explaining that I looked 6 months pregnant. He said 'no that's fine, I know what 6 months pregnant looks like.' He didn't look at my pictures. And I said I had notes from my doctors appointment from yesterday to share with him. This is my doctor who is at Mayo so wouldn't be in the Northwestern system yet. He said he can read them off my phone, but then was rushing through our appointment and didn't ever read them or give me suggestions on how to share the doctor's notes so he could read later. I asked if he was going to do an exam, and perhaps he then did it just because I suggested it. He pulled up my shirt, prodded my belly a few times and didn't comment or say anything, just 15 seconds of awkwardness. No After Visit notes either. He printed out a study for me to read and said we could go through it next time and 'have a book club together'. At this point I felt very uncomfortable and fighting away tears. I said I was hoping we could work together on a plan to test for causes of bloating, since my doctor at Mayo believes it isn't gynecological but probably gastrointestinal. My Mayo gynecologist urged me to be very thorough and consult with a GI about next steps. Within 5 mins with Dr. Cohn he was writing a prescription for me to try two new drugs, and I explained I wanted to work together to discover why I'm sick. To work on a diagnosis first and then let's talk about treatment. I'm open to trying a new medication but need to understand what's going on, why I'm sick. He was defensive and said fine, 'I deleted the prescriptions.' The next step was for me to read this lengthy medical article and we would talk about it in two weeks. He ended the appointment by saying 'get your stuff and I'll walk you out. ' I mumbled that I know he's busy, I can see myself out. He said no it's fine and took me to check out. I talked with Phyllis at reception and started crying because I was so disappointed by this appointment and uncomfortable about my interaction with Dr. Cohn. I was hoping to have some kind of plan, and/or some info that would help me decide on surgery next month. This is the worst experience I have ever had with a doctor.
