I consider Dr. Avila-Lima a close friend, she listens, we joke both in English and in Spanish. I know and trust all of her advices and treatment choices. She is proactive when I have issues I think are minor but she pushes to find the reason for my issues.

I am so impressed with the continuity of care from one person to the next. We arrived early so I could talk with surgery about getting my port scheduled. Although breast surgical oncology will not be placing my port, the scheduler was able to assist me in getting in touch with the person from the surgical oncology clinic that will be placing my port. When we met with Dr. Avila-Lima, I appreciate her taking the time to meet with the surgical oncologist so they could review my imaging together before she met with us. I feel that this allows them to come together to determine the best approach and plan of care for me. I appreciate that Dr. Avila-Lima took the time to listen to all of my questions (I had quite a few), and some of my questions she answered even before I had the chance to ask them. She also addressed the topic of fertility which is important to my husband and I. She explained the options available to us, and helped us arrive at a decision that would be best for our family. I’m thankful for providers who listen and treat their patients like part of the care team, allowing us to share in the decision making process.

I met with Dr. Avila-Lima to discuss my bone density test results. She went over the results with me and explained them. She was very thorough and explained the connection between the bone density medicine I take and the cancer medication I take and that I should take the bone density medicine as long as I'm taking the cancer medication. She wrote everything down for me so that I would have a reference as to how long I should be taking the medications. She was so informative and is very pleasant and easy to talk to - she never rushes you and answers all questions. I've been very lucky to have her as one of my physicians.
