Prior to my consultation with Dr. Blaine Smith I met with Patient Financial Advocate, Yolanda [last name], who provided a thorough review of Baptist MD Anderson Center's resources, background and also went through information provided in the patient binder of information. I then met with Dr. Smith's nurse for BP and oxygen check, as well as a brief explanation of next step. I next briefly met with Anna [last name], BSN, RN, the Head and Neck Nurse Navigator, for additional information regarding resources available at the hospital. Next was a consultation with Dr. Smith and his RN, Christina. Dr. Smith reviewed the history of my squamous cancer and explained how he would approach the removal of the cancer located on my face. He answered questions I had and encouraged me to send any questions I might later have through the patient portal. He also suggested I consider Immunotherapy and set up a consultation with Dr. [last name], which I attended a few days after my appointment w/ Dr. Smith. Dr. Smith did not hesitate to respond to my questions or limit the number I asked. He was compassionate in his approach and engaged in our discussion. I felt confident in his thoughtful responses and his plan for surgery, as well as his explanation of the potential risks and outcome of my surgery.

Dr. Blaine Smith is an amazing Surgical Oncologist. He is a brilliant surgeon and did such a great job at explaining everything that was happening and what we would need to do. Everyone was very welcoming and efficient. We even had a Chaplin come in prior to our meeting with our surgeon and chat with us, as your questions in the one line check in were straight forward and asked about our mental health as well regarding the cancer findings. Dr. Smith was exceptional - and had a wonderful bed-side manner. He provided all the information regarding our questions and assured us of the plan going forward as a step by step. We are confident in his plan and care of this cancer treatment and cure!

Doctor Smith was very informed about my condition and explained what I had and gave me options. I wasn't ready to have a surgery but after other tests and doctors telling me that I had no choice if I wanted another surgery that I needed, I decided to have my surgery. Dr. Smith and his staff were very friendly and showed concern for me and my health. They fit me in as soon as possible and even called when they had a cancellation and did it sooner. The surgery was longer than expected because of the many nodules. Dr Smith made sure to check out each nodule and continued until he insured there was no issues with them. I had no problems in recovery and my incision is healing really well and is hard to see already. I can't say enough about my experience and how professional and caring Dr. Smith and the entire staff in his offices and operating room were. I'm very pleased and thankful to all who made my surgery a success.
