Melissa is the most receptive and communicative psychiatric professional I've ever had the pleasure of receiving treatment from. She is brimming with insights, strategies, and information regarding symptoms, treatment options, and side effects. She doesn't miss a beat when she's asked a question. She also makes me feel like I have some power in my course of treatment. The role of a psychiatric patient is a vulnerable position to be in but, in my time as her patient, Melissa has always explained things to me and asked me about my experiences with treatment or symptoms. She's the first psychiatric practitioner to not disregard a bulk of my input or leave me in the dark about what interventions are out there (and how they'd affect my functioning or why they may/may not work for me). Although she does hold the power to brush me off and prescribe whatever she wants (all but one other doctor I've ever seen has done just that--and I have always had quite a number of medical needs outside of the psychiatric ones), Melissa doesn't do those things. I'm thankful for her bedside manner and her expertise.
