The doctor was unavailable (on vacation) and the physician's assistant was swamped with patients. He was 20 minutes late seeing me. He also appeared to be rushing me - so he could get to the next patient.

The physician's assistant set the patient at ease with simple instructions, confident movements and a nice sense of humor. He listened to the patient's concerns and offered options for relief after making a diagnosis.

He is very competent. He takes care to make sure everything is done properly with no pain. I think he has an overload of cases -- his cases and Shilpa's cases (who quit). Therefore your wait time to be seen may be long ( 30 minutes). However, he did apologize, which shows character and respect for the patient. I have to mention my experience with his patient care assistant (who takes the patient's vital signs). She rushed me from the waiting room to the examining room (where I sat for 30 minutes) which was a long walk away. She took my blood pressure reading immediately upon entering the room. Of course my reading was high (149) from all that long walking, and when I mentioned this to her (that my BP escalated because of it), she thought that was funny and nevertheless, recorded my score, 149, into my chart. So now there is a high BP reading in my chart which may indicate I am not taking my meds, which I am. My BP never goes over 125. Usually it is 117 to 120. My experience with how she handled me did not sit well with me. No one should have their BP taken immediately after a long walk to the examining room. The assistant should WAIT a few minutes before taking it. It was obvious she did not care and wanted to hurry up and get it done. Not the best patient care from her, but Mr. Vasquez, the PA-C was far better and patient. He epitomizes the care one expects from Northwestern.
