Talking with Dr. Byron helped me a lot, and I’ll be continuing with him. Now it’s on me to take his advice and keep moving forward. My overall health hasn’t been great, and I’m trying to find a way to manage this knee without jumping straight into a TKR. Being in pain every time I’m awake wears you down. And with my history, the hesitation isn’t hard to understand. I had four DVTs and an SVT in 2025 alone. One of those DVTs hit on September 16th — just weeks after my July kidney stone surgery when I had to stop Eliquis for 2½ days. That was enough to spook me about going into a knee replacement, even though my MD Anderson hematologist has cleared me. My mental health matters just as much as the physical side, and coping with this pain without relying on pain meds is a priority for me.
