Dr. Ehlich was personable; very thorough in his questions, examination, and explanations; great eye contact, and patient with with my slight hearing difficulties. I requested, and he agreed to, x-rays of my knees, which I was able to have done on the same day without an appointment. He immediately put extensive notes in My Chart. I can't recall when I felt so thoroughly handled in my overall medical care. Thank-you, Dr. Ehlich, for your great patient services!

Dr. Ehlich began with patient education, which I suppose is a good practice, but I did not need such an elementary introduction. I well know that osteoporosis and fracture risk is a multi-faceted arena. However, Dr. Ehlich was immediately locked into one single measure and rote treatment plan. He refused to discuss any other factors, variables, or risks relevant to me. Despite the fact that I came in well-informed and had valid, research-based questions and concerns, he simply dismissed everything I said and went on with his standard spiel. He did acknowledge that I had a right to make my own decisions, which I do appreciate; however, it was with an air of “you’re on your own.”
I do not need a doctor to read a 101-level textbook to me, nor would I even need to come for a visit if I were just going to be left on my own to evaluate the whole matter and make my own decisions. What I expect of a doctor is for them to help me sort through the more complex information and subjective considerations as they relate to me personally. If he thinks I am overlooking something or need to understand a different viewpoint, that is fine. In that case, though, I expect a relevant discussion rather than having him just ignore what I have said and resume with his own agenda.
At the end of the visit, Dr. Ehlich began to walk out without even confirming a plan of action. I had to stop him and recap a plan for myself.
In the end, I will probably be charged several hundred dollars for an appointment during which I got no new information or useful advice.
