It seems he started with an assumption that I have sleep apnea and that I will be needing a CPAP machine. He did seem to think the (required) home sleep study would not reveal necessary information, and the in-house sleep study would be more definitive. This is yet another anticipated delay.

Dr. Schaffer was real and truthful with me regarding how to approach my overall care. He took a great amount of time to understand the complexities of my being. He is an ideal healthcare worker. I have seen numerous doctors, and he has been the best one yet.

I had not followed up on my sleep apnea in a very long time and he didn’t make me feel bad about it. My machine was very old but I felt it worked good and only went because my husband thought I needed an up to date machine. I’ve lost quite a bit of weight since initial evaluation and after another study it’s possible I won’t need the machine. Dr. Schaefer is requesting approval from insurance for a new study.

Seemed like it was unnecessary to take vitals for a visit that was only going over my results. Not sure why I even needed a visit to essentially tell me my results were negative and no treatment is recommended. Also had inaccurate information in my file as per tech who asked about my weight management program when I do not have one (not needed - was someone else’s information)

He increased the pressure in my cpap & now I am getting a full night’s sleep & and I I am no longer groggy during the day & able to watch late night TV without falling asleep!

Often times, due to busy schedules a provider can occasionally make the appointment feel rushed. Dr. Schaffer did not present this way in the slightest. I felt seen and heard, and he took his time to ensure the information he was collecting was thorough and offered me space to ask questions, to which he replied thoughtfully and clearly.

Dr. Schaffer is very knowlegeable, empathetic and professional. He has been extremely helpful to me in many ways, including my sleep apnea and weight loss journey. He is insightful. I would never have been able to loss weight without his help and understanding of the problem I was facing.

My oncology care is at Dana-Farber in Boston. I lived in Boston for a few years and moved all care there, including my sleep doc. World-class care is quite a privilege to receive. I have some fine docs in the Capital District. Dr. Schaffer is my world-class doc! We all want expert care and compassion. Dr. Schaffer excels at both. His unique characteristic is his engagement. I'm a full partner in my own care thanks to Dr. Schaffer; not dictating terms, not directing things. Just "fully considered," and isn't that what we all want in our care?
